Dr. Amy Cantrell

Dr. Amy Cantrell, originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, is a proud citizen of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation of Oklahoma and a third generation graduate of the University of Oklahoma. She earned both a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Optometry and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Relations before continuing her education at the University of Houston College of Optometry.

While at UHCO, Dr. Cantrell developed a strong passion for medical optometry, low vision and community outreach. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society, received a Letter of Clinical Excellence and completed advanced training through an intensive retina clinic rotation. She was also selected to participate in the Ambulatory Surgery Center rotation as a third year student. In addition, she served as a graduate research assistant in the Ostrin Lab, contributing to research in biomedical optics and myopia control.

Her clinical training included working at Diagnostic Eye Center in Houston, gaining experience in a busy OD/MD private practice, as well as rotations at the Albuquerque VA Medical Center and Albuquerque Indian Health Service, where she became proficient in managing diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma, dry eye and other ocular diseases.

Dr. Cantrell's journey in optometry began at the age of six, when she was first prescribed glasses. Inspired by her own experience, she pursued optometry as a career in 2016, starting as a technician in retina and specialty contact lens clinics across Oklahoma.

Now practicing in Florida, Dr. Cantrell is excited to serve patients at our Fort Walton location of Gulf Coast Vision Center.

Outside of the office, she enjoys beach days, cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners and spending time with her beloved chihuahua, Cheeto.
